Sightseeing attractions in Flachau and Salzburg

The area surrounding Flachau has lots to offer: An excursion to the city of Salzburg is an experience in summer as well as winter. A visit to the Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtenstein gorge), the Eisriesenwelt or Hohenwerfen Castle will make your summer holiday in Flachau the highlight of the year. Whether you want to visit Mozart's birthplace or the Getreidegasse, your lust for culture will be satisfied in Salzburg:
  • Visitors to the Mirabell Gardens will enter a colourful world of flowers and sculptures, pergolas, blossoms, and water-spouting wells
  • The marble staircase in Mirabell Castle, the seat of the mayor of Salzburg, is chosen by wedding couples from all over the world as an atmospheric location for wedding photos following the wedding ceremony.
  • Pferdeschwemme - this is the exact spot where the horses of the archbishop's stables were once washed. The site was built by Fischer von Erlach.
  • Mozartplatz - adjacent to the Residenzplatz, with the bronze statue of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (cast from a model by the Munich sculptor Ludwig von Schwanthaler and unveiled in 1842).
  • The Residenzplatz is the largest square of the Old Town. It is situated between the Royal Residence and the new Residence, and is bordered by the Church of St. Michaels and the cathedral. In the centre of the square rises the 15 metre high Residence fountain, which was created from 1656 to 1661.
  • Hohensalzburg Fortress, Haus der Natur and much more is waiting to be discovered by you!
  • Hellbrunn Palace: The fountains in particular are an experience. But the park and the castle itself are also worth a visit.
  • Salzburg Zoo: An ideal excursion for the family! Pandas, wolves, lions, kangaroos, coatis and many other animals, which can only be seen in the wilderness, all live here.

Eisriesenwelt Werfen

Ice in the Eisriesenwelt Werfen
The Eisriesenwelt in Werfen is the largest ice cave in the world. The cave system extends over 42 km in length, 20 m in width and 18 m in height. The cave system was created about 100 million years ago over thousands of years through dissolution processes and water erosion. Discover this special and breathtaking natural experience. You will need solid footwear and warm clothing when you visit, since the temperatures in the ice cave are usually below 0° Celsius.

Liechtensteinklamm waterfall
The Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtenstein gorge) in St. Johann im Pongau is a legendary, world-famous gorge. The roaring waterfalls have carved out the ravine over millions of years. The gorge has been accessible to visitors since 1875 and is an ideal summer destination for families. Solid footwear and warm clothing are recommended.
Early in the morning and later in the afternoon are when nature shows its most beautiful side.

The 900-year-old former fortified castle is worth a trip for cultural enthusiasts. Castle tours, weapons exhibitions, numerous productions and events and much more await you here. Another special feature are the birds of prey shows at the historical Landfalkenhof.

The Dachstein Glacier

The 360° window offers a perfect view of the mountains. Visit the ice palace, which introduces you to mystical worlds of ice at 2700 m, discover the Skywalk, the most spectacular viewing point of the Alps, or the rope bridge with its unobstructed view of up to 400 m.
